May - June 2020

May was different this year. Instead of end of class parties and finishing up after school activities, we instead completed homeschooling and recovered from the ACL reconstruction surgery. The girls adjusted so well to homeschooling and all the changes, but we sure did miss all the social aspects that come with school. It was surreal ending the year and our after school activities with drive by car rides to wave goodbye. Quarantine life has brought us closer together as a family, has slowed down the pace of life, and has given us a lot of time to teach our kids valuable daily lessons. I'm thankful for the blessings, yet I'm hopeful that we will eventually return to a new normal.
Dad and Sharon were so kind to help me out for an extended period of time as I recovered from surgery and Jay started and completed a turnaround. Not only was it super helpful for me, but the kids had a blast. It made my heart so happy to see them playing and having fun while I recovering from surgery. Avery learned the game Canasta and really has excelled in the game. Avery also enjoyed making lasagna with Poppy, one of our family signature dishes. Aubrey had a great time just having fun, being silly, and extra snuggles. We also got to spend some extra time with Tessa as she spent a handful of nights sleeping over. It is so nice to have the cousins grow up together.
Aubrey had her first theater performance: Moana. Things continue to look different in quarantine. Instead of inviting family to come watch the production, there was no audience. We only got to see it pieced together by video as it was the safest option given the circumstances. We were so proud of her, she has worked very hard for 6 months preparing for the performance. Avery was very supportive but had no interest in theater. It is nice to see them develop different interests.
After 14 plus weeks off from work, I returned 7 weeks post off from the ACL surgery. It was a difficult yet welcomed change. It showed me that I was in the next step of recovery and added some normalcy back into the day to day. However, it was hard going back to work after being blessed to be home with the girls and having so much family time together. Thankfully, my hours allow me to be a stay at home momma, my first love, the majority of the time.
Big news in our house - Aubrey got her fist pet...A ferocious hamster she affectionately calls Hazel. Aubrey loves her pet and pays great attention to her. However, she stays in her cage or in the exercise ball because we have learned that she is a little ferocious and likes to bite! Avery is perfectly fine having the enjoyment that comes with a pet but having none of the responsibility to care for it! Smart girl!!
