July - August 2020

What we thought would be a very long and boring summer has turned out to be a very enjoyable and relaxing summer after all. Due to COVID, we remain mostly quarantined at home. No camps, no summer activities, and even gathering with friends has been very limited to a few select families. The girls have loved it and have been so creative in their play. It has been such a joy seeing their friendship grow deeper and for them to entertain themselves with their imaginations. We are blessed to also have a great visit with both sides of the family which made the summer go by quicker too.
In July, we had a great visit with Nana and Grandpa over 4th of July time period. They brought in the holiday with great food and sparklers and the kids watched fireworks from their window (local gatherings of fireworks were canceled for crowd control). Nana and Grandpa are always creative in finding ways to keep them entertained. They tried tennis for the first time and the girls enjoyed trying something new. They had fun at the pool, playing with new American Girl dolls, making jewelry, doing hair chalk, making shirts and so much more! We are thankful for all the time and love.
In late July early August Jay had a turnaround for his new plant that he started in just a month previous. Poppy and Grammy came for a visit during this time to spend with the kids and help hold down the fort. The kids and I really enjoyed the extra fun and laughs while Jay worked extra long days and weeks. We had tons of fun in the pool and playing "Hasty Baker" card game. We introduced the kids to America's Got Talent TV show and this was a real hit during this time as well. It was fun thinking of talent we could perform for the show! It was another great visit with the grandparents.
Late in August we prepared for Hurricane Laura. In the last 24hrs, it shifted eastward and was a nonevent for Houston. However, I have no doubt that all the preparations and sleeping over at Aunt Aimee's and Uncle Israel's for the night while both Jay and were on lock downs at work will be a memory captured for years to come.
On the last day of August, the 31st to be exact, the girls started their 3rd grade school at the Thomas Homeschool. We will be on a slow transition back to the classroom with the goal of being full time in the classroom by October if COVID doesn't spike. We are all hoping for the best. First day of school pictures to follow in the next post.
